What I'm Buying - Walmart Price-Matching 11/18

Monday, November 18, 2013
This week and next week will have some GREAT sales at the grocery stores in preparation for Thanksgiving!

Every year at PinchingYourPennies, we do a comparison list of some of the common Thanksgiving meal ingredients and how all the sale prices match up across stores, so you can easily see at a glance what the best price is (and where) for each item.  As I was working on updating the list last night for the new sales ads starting today, I ran across several deals that I didn't want to miss.  But with three kids at home (we're on year-round school and are currently "off-track") there was NO WAY I was going to cart all of them to multiple stores without having a nervous breakdown.  So I opted to make one quick stop at Walmart and price-match!

Here's what I picked up:

(1) #10 can butter powder, 18.63 (good price, considering the same can online is 29.95)
(1) ground mustard powder, 3.83 (for food storage - running low on current one)
(1) ground turmeric, 4.98 (also for food storage - we use a lot of this in our favorite curry recipe)
(4) Libby's canned veggies, price matched to .50 (Macey's) and .25 after a 1.00/4 coupon
(6) GV frozen veggies, price matched to .79 (Macey's)
(14) GV whole berry cranberry sauce, price matched to .50 (Macey's - killer deal!)
(4) Silk Pure Almond milk, price matched to 2.49 (Smith's) and 2.15 after coupons
(6) GV powdered confectioner's sugar 2lb, price matched to .88 (Macey's)
(2) mini peeled carrots 2lb, price matched to 1.98 (Macey's)
(8) GV granulated sugar 4lb, price matched to 1.25 (Macey's)
(4) Challenge butter 1lb, price matched to 1.99 (Smith's) and 1.24 after coupons
(2) loaves GV wheat bread, 1.38 (hate having to pay for bread, but no time to make it myself this week)

Total:  $78.03

Minus the butter powder and the two spices, you're looking at only about $50 for all the rest of the groceries - not bad at all!

This is the ONE time of the year when canned cranberry sauce goes on sale.  No, I do not use 14 cans worth on Thanksgiving (I actually make sauce from fresh cranberries for Thanksgiving), but I do use the canned stuff in a really great and really easy chicken recipe and in a salad or  side-dish occasionally, so I stock up each fall for my year's supply.  Now is also a great time to stock up on baking items, canned/boxed broth, stuffing mix and canned yams and pumpkin.  Still waiting for the best deal on canned pumpkin - that's the last thing left to get on my stock up list from the Thanksgiving sales!

What I'm Buying - Smith's 11/6

Wednesday, November 6, 2013
It has been a LONG time since I have done one of these posts.  I feel like the grocery sales and the coupons just haven't really been that good for the last six months or so.  Just kinda "so-so", and so I haven't really felt like there was much to post about.  :(  Well, I guess I could lament the fact that my grocery bill seems to get higher every month, even WITH coupons and price matching... I miss the days when I could get out of Smith's or Albertson's with a cart full of groceries for about $40.  These days, I'm lucky if I can make it out of Smith's with half a cart full and for under $100.  Boo!

But this week has been FABULOUS for some great stock-up sales so far!!!

Monday found me at three different stores - Walmart (to price match), then Harmon's (because WM didn't have some of the things I wanted to price match) and Smiths to catch the end of last week's sale.  I was able to score several packages of boneless skinless chicken breasts for 1.29/lb!!!  (I ALWAYS seem to miss the meat markdowns, so this was a rare score for me.)

At Harmon's this week, they've got Western Family canned tomatoes and canned beans for .39 each when you buy in multiples of 10!  And their Western Family ketchup is only .69 as part of that same promo!!!  One of the BEST deals was the Blue Diamond Almond Milk (we have family members with dairy allergies) half-gallons for 1.67 - WOW!!!!  (They were 1.40 after coupon - lowest I've EVER paid for that stuff!)

Here's what I got at Smith's today:

It's another Mega Event sale at Smiths - buy 10 items and save $5.

(6) Huggies jumbo packs diapers, on sale 8.99 (ranged from 6.49 to 7.49 with coupons, BUT you also get a $5 Catalina coupon wyb 2 in one transaction)
(4) Mott's apple juice 64oz, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo, .99 after coupon)
(8) C&H sugar 4lb, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo, 1.49-1.59 after coupon)
(4) Gillette Satin Care shave gel, on sale 1.99 (1.49 after promo, .49 after coupon)
(1) Kraft mayo, on sale 3.49 (2.99 after promo)
(4) Challenge butter 1lb, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo)
(2) Land O Lakes butter 1lb, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo)
(4) Ronzoni Garden Delight pasta, on sale .99 (.49 after promo, FREE after coupon)
(5) Stove Top stuffing mix, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo)
(4) Betty Crocker cake mix, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo, .57 after coupon)
(1) Ronzoni HealthyHarvest spaghetti, on sale .99 (.49 after promo, FREE after coupon)
(2) Ocean Spray canned cranberry sauce, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo)
(4) Campbell's cream of mushroom soup, on sale .99 (.49 after promo, .29 after coupon)
(6) Campbell's cream of chicken soup, on sale .99 (.49 after promo, .29 after coupon)
(4) Hormel chili, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo, .49-.72 after coupon)
(1) Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese tub, on sale 1.79 (1.29 after promo, .79 after coupon)
(3) Classico pasta sauce, on sale 1.99 (1.49 after promo, .89 after coupon)
(3) Heinz gravy, on sale 1.29 (.79 after promo)
(10) American Beauty pasta, on sale .99 (.49 after promo)
Granny smith apples, on sale .99/lb
Red delicious apples, on sale .99/lb
Bartlett pears, on sale .99/lb

To get the deal on the diapers, I had to do three different transactions, to roll the Catalina coupons.

AND, even more savings -
*The gravy bottles have a coupon under the label for 1.00/2 jars.
*The butter has coupons inside for .75 off any Challenge product.
*The Catalina machine also spit out a coupon for 1.50 off any 5 Campbell's soups!

Total:  $106.75 + I still have one $5 Catalina coupon

(Only about $71 if you leave out the diapers!)

What I'm Buying - Smiths, 5/1

Thursday, May 2, 2013
I know I haven't posted one of these for a long time...

I have still been doing coupons.  But couponing has changed a LOT in the last three years!  So many new rules, smaller values, less deals...It's still a good way to save money, but you won't be able to find the items for pennies on the dollar like you could have several years ago (or like some television shows would have you believe are totally realistic).  The shows have had a devastating impact on coupon usage, not only from coupon users, but for stores and manufacturers as well.  Oh well, I suppose that is just how things go - always changing, always evolving, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad.

Here's what I picked up at Smith's last night, to take advantage of their P&G Buy 4 Save $4 Promo:

(4) Satin Care shave gel, on sale 2.00 (1.00 after promo, .45 after coupon)
(4) Gain fabric softener, on sale 4.99 (3.99 after promo, 3.49 after coupon)
(4) Tide Boost 18ct, on sale 5.99 (4.99 after promo, 2.99 after coupon)
(1) Charmin 12ct double rolls, on sale 6.99 (5.99 after promo, 4.99 after coupon)
(3) Bounce dryer sheets, on sale 4.99 (3.99 after promo, 2.99 after coupon)
(5) Crest toothpaste, on sale 2.69 (1.69 after promo, .69 after coupon)
(3) Downy fabric softener, on sale 4.99 (3.99 after promo, 2.99 after coupon)
(8) Pantene ProV shampoo/conditioner, on sale 3.79 (2.79 after promo, 1.29 after coupon)
(4) Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal, on sale 1.88 (1.13 after coupon)
(1) Quaker Big Chewy granola bars, on sale 1.88 (1.13 after coupon)
(1) gal orange juice, on sale 2.50
(2) gal whole milk, on sale 2.69 (2.44 after coupon)
(1) Almond Breeze almond milk, on sale 2.99
(2) Kraft Fresh Take, 3.29 (2.29 after coupon, 1.29 after Catalina)
(2) Zote pink soap, 1.19
(1) Arm & Hammer washing soda, 3.59
(1) White King water softener, 4.29

Total:  $102.96 + $2 Catalina coupon good off of next purchase

I kinda cried when I saw the total.  There were times in the past when something like this would have cost me well under $60.  I miss the days of Albertsons.  But hey, savings is savings.  It doesn't seem to be keeping up with inflation, but what can you do? It's still better than paying full price for all of this.  My receipt says I saved $100.88 - $54.88 of that was Fresh Values savings (we all know the regular non-sale price is totally over-inflated, so this one is kinda null and void), but $46 of that was from manufacturer coupons, and that IS quite a big savings!  That pretty much covers the costs of my newspaper subscriptions for almost a full year!  :)

My favorite food storage!

Monday, January 7, 2013
You know how I'm always saying that there is no one right way to do food storage?  Well, it's true.  There are lots of ways to do food storage, and the BEST way to do it is however it works best for you and your family.  Each family will have different needs, so there really isn't one right plan for everyone.

But, there are a few WRONG ways to do food storage.  And one of those ways is to forget to add a few comfort or splurge items to your storage.  Generally speaking, if you're having to eat out of your food storage long-term, or are using your 72-hour kits, then you're most likely experiencing a little more stress than normal (natural disaster, emergency, loss of job, etc.) and that can take an emotional toll.  So make sure to include a few items for your emotional well-being in your storage.  It doesn't have to be big or expensive, but you'd be surprised how comforting something like a cup of hot chocolate can be when you are stressed or emotionally taxed.  Or even something as simple as a candy bar, especially when they are otherwise hard to come by.

One of my favorite things to do for food storage is search the after-Christmas sales when the stores throw all their Christmas candy and chocolates on clearance, and then take those and vacuum-seal them with my FoodSaver to add to my food storage.   Then we've always got some on hand if needed, etiher for a recipe or a quick party snack, or just for an emotional pick-me-up or to satisfy a sweet tooth!

These are Hershey's Kisses that I happened to find at Target last week for 50% off.  I took them out of their original packaging and just sealed them up in some FoodSaver bags.  Then they will go on the shelf in my food storage to be used as needed (or as wanted) throughout the year.
Your comfort item doesn't necessarily need to be chocolate.  Maybe you like certain candy bars, or a type of hard candy, or really enjoy a particular type of pudding. It doesn't need to be something big or fancy.  Just find one or two things that you could add to your food storage as a "splurge".  Maybe it's microwave popcorn, or beef jerky sticks. Trust me, if you're months into eating exclusively out of your food storage, you'll be glad you have a little something to splurge on or to break the monotony!

What I'm Buying - Walmart, 11/17 (the Thanksgiving meal trip)

Saturday, November 17, 2012
I needed to get a few items to finish out my ingredients list for Thanksgiving, and there were a few deals I still wanted to grab, so I decided to head to Walmart today to price match.  I had planned on getting my turkey over at Smith's, because I wasn't sure Walmart would price-match it since they don't have a store brand for their turkey, but when I got there they had frozen Jennie-O turkeys for .69/lb, so I figured I would save myself the trip and just everything at one place!

Here's what I picked up:

(8) Sierra Mist 2-liter, price matched to .79 (Fresh Market/Peterson's)
(2) dozen large eggs, price matched to .99 (Fresh Market)
(2) bunches bananas, price matched to .45/lb (Ream's)
(2) GV dried cranberries, 4.88 (I was going to price match the Ocean Spray 5oz Craisins for 1.67 at Harmon's, but these ended up being cheaper)
(2) fresh sage, price matched to 1.99 (Smith's)
(2) fresh rosemary, price matched to 1.99 (Smith's)
(4) Johnsonville mild Italian sausage, 2.98 (2.48 after coupon)
(1) jar GV minced garlic, 4.48
(4) Libby's canned grean beans, price matched to .47 (Peterson's - .22 ea after coupon)
(6) Lindsay olives, price matched to .79 (Harmon's - minus a $1 off coupon)
(1) 2lb baby peeled carrots, price matched to 1.88 (Ream's)
(1) 22.5lb Jennie-O frozen turkey, 15.57 (.69/lb)
(6) GV cranberry sauce, price matched to .69 (Fresh Market)
(6) large onions, .48/lb
(3) huge bags of sweet potatoes, price matched to .33/lb (Ream's)
(2) Marie Calendar's pies, price matched to 3.99 (Peterson's - 3.24 after coupon - not pictured)
(1) Sara Lee apple pie, 2.98 (1.98 after coupon)
TOTAL:  $92.10
I did use coupons for the canned veggies, the olives, the sausage and the three pies.
It wasn't the cheapest trip ever, but I felt like I got the best deals possible on what I needed.  The turkey was a pretty big expense - I miss last year's $4 and $6 turkey deals at Smith's...  :(
For those in Utah, here is a comparison list on store prices for common Thanksgiving meal items:
Thanksgiving Meal Deals 2012 at
[If you're in northern Utah and can get to Lee's, or are in an area where Walmart will price match Lee's prices, they've got some really great deals this week!]
I stocked up on cranberry sauce for use in recipes throughout the year, and I got the last 6 cans of Lindsay olives (.79 a can is the best price I have seen on these ALL YEAR).  I also got as many sweet potatoes as I thought they'd let me out of the store with.  ;)
So, just in case you're wondering (which you probably aren't, but I'm going to share anyway, he he he) here are my Thanksgiving recipes:
Pioneer Woman's Soul Sweet Potatoes (these are new this year - I made them last night and my husband informed me that if I even DARE think about having Thanksgiving without them, he will divorce me on the spot...they were THAT good, seriously)
Lion House Rolls - I make mine from scratch
We usually go really simple on the vegetable, like just frozen corn.  And since my family doesn't stick around for dessert, and I'm usually on my fourth round of ibuprofen by the time we sit down to eat, I'm opting to go for pre-made pies to make things easier on myself.

What I'm Buying - Smith's, 11/5

Monday, November 5, 2012
I apologize that it has been so long since I've posted one of these.  Things have been crazier than crazy, and I'm afraid that chasing down grocery deals has had to take a back seat for awhile.  And even when I have done some coupon deals, I haven't had much of a chance to post about them.  But hopefully things are calming down a little bit now and I can get back to posting more of these.

The purpose of putting these up is not to brag about getting cheap deals.  It really started as just a way to show examples for others that were learning how to use coupons, but has proven to be very useful in showing how I work on adding to my food storage little by little by stocking up when I find good deals.  I want people to see that food storage is not just all about what comes out of a big #10 can.

Smith's is running a great Mega Event right now with some fabulous deals on holiday meal items!  I find really great grocery deals in November and December, and do a lot of stocking up.  Baking items go on sale (sugar, flour, chocolate chips, etc.) along with soups, broths, mixes, chilis and other hearty items.  And good thing, too, because we just used our last can of chicken broth a few weeks ago and were completely out!  :)

So, here's what I picked up at Smith's today.  The promo is "buy 10 items, save $5 instantly".  There are some great coupon matchups that make for some really good stock-up prices!

(2) whole milk, on sale 2.89 (2.14 after coupon)
(2) 32oz Kroger shredded cheese, on sale 5.99 (4.99 after coupon)
(2) green leaf lettuce, 1.29
(2) organic green leaf lettuce, on sale 1.59
(1) organic romaine lettuce, on sale 1.49
roma tomatoes, .99/lb
(4) Duncan Hines cake mixes, on sale 1.25 (.75 after coupon)
(4) StoveTop stuffing mixes, on sale 1.29 (.79 after promo, .29 after coupon)
(4) Kraft JetPuffed marshmallows, on sale 1.19 (.69 after promo, .44 after coupon)
(4) CoolWhip, 1.39 (.89 after promo, .39 after coupon)
(2) Dove Men + Care body wash, on sale 3.99 (3.49 after promo, 1.49 after coupon, .49 after Catalina offer)
(8) Hormel chili, on sale 1.39 (.89 after promo, .39 after coupon)
(4) Blue Diamond almond milk, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo, 1.62 after coupon, 1.12 after Catalina offer)
(4) Swansons broth 32oz carton, on sale 1.99 (1.49 after promo, .99 after coupon)
(9) Pringles chips, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo, .83 after coupon)
(6) Campbell's Cream of Chicken soup, on sale 1.19 (.69 after promo, .44 after coupon)
(5) Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup, on sale 1.19 (.69 after promo, .44 after coupon)
Total:  $57.55 + I got a $2 Catalina coupon for the Dove and a $2.00 Catalina coupon for the almond milk
All of the items you see in the picture (except for the lettuce, tomatoes and milks) are for my food storage.  My pantry is my food storage, and my food storage is my pantry, so we definitely store what we eat and eat what we store!  No need to have just boring bland grains and nothing else in your food storage.  If you can store it, you can count it as food storage!  So feel free to include fun items, like cake mixes, candy, chocolate, potato chips (short term) in your food storage.  Just make sure you rotate them!  ;)

What I'm Buying - Smith's 9/7

Friday, September 7, 2012
Smith's is having their fall case lot sale this week!

I did most of my case lot stuff at the Macey's case lot sale last month, so there wasn't a lot I needed.  But I did still find a few good deals.   Unfortunately, the trip ended up being about twice the amount I was anticipating....ugh.

They are running another Buy 10 Items Save $5 Instantly promo, and some of the promo items are also part of a Kraft Catalina deal where you buy 10 Kraft items and get a $10 Catalina coupon at checkout good for your next purchase.

I also picked up 4 non-dairy frozen desserts (fake ice cream) that I had already put in the freezer, so they are not in the picture.   They were SUPER expensive, so I don't get them very often.

My total for all of this was $125.78.  And I also got $12 in Catalina coupons to use for my next trip.

Not one of my best savings trips by far, especially when compared with last week.  But I was able to stock up on some of my food storage items that were getting low, like ketchup and mayo and peanut butter.

What I'm Buying - Smith's 8/23

Thursday, September 6, 2012
Things were so crazy last week that I completely forgot to post anything about this trip.  Sorry I don't have any details - I've lost my shopping list that had all the coupon matchups and final prices....

It was a good trip though.  My total after promos and coupons was just $44.29.

What I'm Buying - Smith's, 8/13

Monday, August 13, 2012
I got a chance to stop at Smith's briefly this evening to grab a few things from the sale before the ad ends.  Here is what I picked up:

(4) Don Julio tortilla chips, on sale 1.00

(3) Smith's medium dozen eggs, on sale .69

(2) pkg red grapes, on sale .99/lb
(2) pkg green grapes, on sale .99/lb
Bartlett pears, on sale .99/lb
Roma tomatoes, on sale .79/lb

I used (2) 1.00/2 coupons for the cereal (see SS-7/15) and then I totally scored with the Mac & Cheese because each box had a coupon for a FREE box of Capri Sun, any variety, when you bought the Mac & Cheese - so (4) FREE Capri Sun coupons!

Total:  $52.85

What I'm Buying - Macey's Case Lot, 8/10

Friday, August 10, 2012

What I'm Buying - Macey's Case Lot Sale 8/3

Monday, August 6, 2012
So, this is the one I'm a little embarrassed to show you...I sorta went overboard on the case lot sale.  I don't usually buy much at these sales because I can get better prices throughout the year by watching deals and matching coupons.  But with the new babe, the deal scouring has been a little harder to come by the last 8-9 months, so I did stock up on this one.

Here's what I got:

(6) pkg Ball canning lids, on sale 1.55

(4) Harvest Select frozen juice concentrate, on sale .79 (not pictured - in freezer already)

(4) WF pineapple chunks, on sale .99
(4) WF pineapple crushed, on sale .99
(8) WF diced green chiles, on sale .49
(48) WF turkey chili, on sale .89 (thank goodness for this stuff - it's dairy and beef free!!!)
(1) Fisher Boy family-size fish sticks, on sale 6.99 (not pictured - in freezer already)
(9) WF isopropyl alcohol, on sale .49 (for first-aid, and for making my own window cleaner and cold packs - more on this later)
(1) WF hydrogen peroxide, on sale .49

I didn't use any coupons on this trip.

Total:  $174.46

If you're new to case lot sales, or are just wondering what the best deals are, Valerie at Prepared LDS Family has a comparison chart to show you all of the items and the prices for the case lot sales compared to Sam's Club, Costco and the LDS Cannery.  It is a fabulous resource and she does an amazing job putting all the info together!

Now I just need Smith's to put their Hunt's ketchup in their upcoming case lot sale...  ;)

What I'm Buying - Ream's 8/3

I really like Ream's for my produce - they have great quality and very good prices!  So whenever I am heading to Macey's, I like to also plan a stop at Ream's since it is on my way home.

Here's what I picked up at Ream's last week:

(2) bunches bananas, on sale .49/lb
(3) green bell peppers, on sale .33 ea
(3) red bell peppers, on sale .33 ea (AWESOME!!!)
(3) 2lb pkg strawberries, on sale 1.59 ea (that's .80/lb - FABULOUS deal!!!)
(2) pkg red grapes, on sale .99/lb
(2) pkg green grapes, on sale .99/lb

(2) boxes ShakeNGo drink mix, clearanced to .99 ea
(2) pkg boneless skinless chicken breast, on sale 1.69/lb (not pictured - they were already in the freezer)

I didn't use any coupons for this trip.

Total:  $45.43

What I'm Buying - Harmon's 8/3

Sorry this took so long to post - it has been a tough few days around here and I think we've got a cold that we're passing around.

There were two promos at Harmon's last week.  Select General Mills items were Buy 10 Get $5 Off, and select Kellogg's items were also Buy 10 Get $5 Off.

Here's what I picked up at Harmon's on Friday:

(16) Kellogg's pop-tarts 8ct, on sale 1.79 (1.29 after promo, about .90 each after coupons)
(4) Kellogg's Krave cereal, on sale 2.29 (1.79 after promo, 1.29 after coupons)
(10) Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats cereals, on sale 2.29 (1.79 after promo, about 1.35 after coupons)
(10) Yoplait GoGurts, on sale 1.75 (1.25 after promo, about .90 each after coupons)
(10) Yoplait Trix yogurt 4pk, on sale 1.75 (1.25 after promo, about .90 each after coupons)
(1) Veganaise dressing (fake mayo, for the dairy-free), 5.69
(4) Daiya shreds (fake cheese, for the dairy-free), 5.49

I don't even remember which coupons I used on these, and I didn't mark them down on the list - so I apologize.  Some of the AF stores are continuing these promos this week, so check your local ads.

Total:  $89.36

I would have loved for it to be about half that price, but the days of the really cheap deals are pretty much gone.  It was, however, much better than paying full price!  ;)

I used (2) .75/1 printable coupons for the milk (see GroupA at GrocerySmarts), (2) .50/1 printables for the cereal (see link at GrocerySmarts list - from the Kellogg's site), and (2) 1.00/2 coupons for the Quaker items (can't remember where I printed them from).

Total:  $49.78

GRRR - that seems so high for just three sacks of groceries...But unfortunately it's only going to get worse I'm afraid.  With more than half of the country in drought this year, they are estimating that we will lose 2/3 of our corn and soy crops.  That is HUGE because corn and soy are in EVERYTHING (not good, but that's the way it is right now).  So when the prices for corn and soy go up, prices for EVERYTHING go up - including for fuel.  Makes me really wish I had a garden this year!

Crazy case lot and grocery sales!

Friday, August 3, 2012
I got a chance to run to Macey's tonight to get some things during their case lot sale.  I don't usually get a lot at these sales because I have been able to find better deals on sales throughout the year using coupons.  But couponing has changed dramatically in the last year or two and together with the increasing food and fuel prices, along with having a newborn, I just haven't been able to get a lot of great stock-up deals lately.  So I took the opportunity to stock up on some of the case lot items.  Not stellar deals, but better than paying full price.

I also had to stop at Harmon's and Ream's while I was out - Ream's for some produce, and Harmon's for their great GM and Kellogg's promos!  I will post pictures tomorrow so you can see what I was able to find.

What I'm Buying - Smith's 7/18

Thursday, July 19, 2012
I finally got a chance to get out and get groceries has been a tough few weeks around here...good thing the Buy 10 Get $5 sale was going on for a second week!  ;)

Here's what I picked up:

(10) Propel waters, on sale .99 (.49 after promo)
(10) Pringles chips, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo)
(4) Gorton's fish sticks 18ct, on sale 2.99 (2.49 after promo, 1.99 after coupon)
(5) Kroger waffles 10ct, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo)
(1) Trop50 raspberry lemonade, on sale 1.99 (1.49 after promo)
(2) Tropicana orange juice, on sale 3.29 (2.79 after promo)
(2) Silk PureAlmond milk, on sale 2.99 (2.49 after promo)
(8) Del Monte canned fruit, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo, .74 after coupon)
(8) Old Spice deodorant, on sale 1.99 (1.49 after promo, .49 after coupon)
(2) Stewarts root beer 4pk, on sale 2.99 (hubs had already put them in the fridge)
(8) Gobstoppers candies, on sale 1.00

I've been having a difficult time with my local Smith's lately - the last 5 trips I've had something ring up wrong or a promo not credit.  This one was no exception...the clerk rang up an extra can of fruit, and at full price!  GRRR!!!!  I knew something was wrong when she told me the receipt showed 51 promo items instead of 50, but the line was backing up, it was late at night, there was no one at customer service to help fix it and I had to get home to feed the baby.  So I let it go...

I used (2) 1.00/2 printable coupons for the fish, (4) 2.00/2 coupons for the deodorant and (2) 1.00/4 coupons for the canned fruit.

I also then used the $11 in Catalina coupons from two weeks ago.

Total:  $56.29

I also bought roma tomatoes and bananas at Walmart so I could price match - they were both .33/lb from Rancho Markets this week.

What I'm Buying - Smith's 7/4

Wednesday, July 4, 2012
Happy Fourth of July!!!

My kids are now out of school for the summer, and grocery shopping with three in tow is just not feasible, so today provided a great chance to run to the store while daddy stayed home with the kids.  I guess everyone was thinking something similar, or they were gearing up for last-minute BBQ/party items, because it was CRAZY busy!  But, I was able to get everything I wanted, which is sometimes a rarity at my particular store.

Smith's has their yearly Daytona 500 promo going on for one more week - Buy 10 participating items, save $3 instantly at checkout and then get a $2 coupon good towards your next shopping trip.

My cart was so full that I had to do two separate trips, and then had to break the second trip into two transactions to get the full Catalina coupon amounts.  And then we had to re-ring part of the first cart because one of the cereals didn't ring up towards the promo...but it was all good in the end.

Transaction 1:
(20) GM cereals, on sale 1.99 (1.69 after checkout promo, 1.49 after Catalina coupon, .99-1.17 after manufacturer coupon)
(9) Kellogg's PopTarts 12ct, on sale 2.29 (1.99 after checkout promo, 1.79 after Catalina coupon, 1.46 after manufacturer coupon)
(11) Gatorade 32oz, on sale .99 (.69 after checkout promo, .49 after Catalina coupon)

I used various coupons on the cereal and pop-tarts (see list at GrocerySmarts for details).

Total:  $49.68 + (4) $2 Catalina coupons

One of the items that is part of the Daytona 500 promo also has a second Catalina promo - OreIda Sweet Potato steak fries or crinkle cut fries, buy 3 or more and get $3 coupon good off next shopping trip.  Unlike with the Daytona 500 coupons, you can only get (1) of the OreIda coupons per transaction, so if you want more than three packages, you'll need to split them up into two transactions.

Transaction 2:
(3) OreIda sweet potato steak fries, on sale 2.99 (2.69 after checkout promo, 2.49 after Catalina coupon from promo, 1.49 after manufacturer Catalina coupon)
(7) Fritos chips, on sale 1.99 (1.69 after checkout promo, 1.49 after Catalina coupon)

Total:  $20.50 + (1) $2 Catalina coupon + (1) $3 Catalina coupon

Transaction 3:
(3) OreIda sweet potato crinkle cut fries, on sale 2.99 (2.69 after checkout promo, 2.49 after Catalina coupon from promo, 1.49 after manufacturer Catalina coupon)
(6) Hefty gallon storage bags, on sale 1.49 (1.19 after checkout promo, .99 after Catalina coupon, .49 after manufacturer coupon)
(4) Hefty quart storage bags, on sale 1.49 (1.19 after checkout promo, .99 after Catalina coupon, .49 after manufacturer coupon)
(4) Planter's dry roasted peanuts, on sale 3.79 (3.49 after checkout promo, 3.29 after Catalina coupon, 2.29 after manufacturer coupon)
(16) Gatorade 32oz, on sale .99 (.69 after checkout promo, .49 after Catalina coupon)
(7) Fritos chips, on sale 1.99 (1.69 after checkout promo, 1.49 after Catalina coupon)
(4) Barqs and Fanta 12pk, on sale 3.33 (2.50 after promo Buy 4 for $10 - except they only took off $2 instead of the full 3.33 for the 4th 12pk - GRRR!!!!!)
(2) gallon whole milk, on sale 2.00
(1) Minute Maid fruit punch, on sale 1.00
(1) Minute Maid lemonade, on sale 1.00
(1) Smart Balance Lite margarine, 3.19
(1) Nucoa buttery spread sticks, 2.19
(1) calla lilly, 1.99 on clearance

I used coupons on the storage bags and peanuts, and one printable coupon on the milk.

I then used (5) $2 coupons and (1) $3 coupon from the previous transactions.

Total:  $60.96 + (4) $2 Catalina coupons + (1) $3 Catalina coupon

Overall, my total was $131.14 and I still have $11 in Catalina coupons for my next trip, so right at $120 after factoring all the Catalina coupons back in!

What I'm Buying - Honeyville Farms, 6/9

Sunday, June 10, 2012
So, I *FINALLY* made it out to the Honeyville Farms retail store yesterday...I've been wanting to go for months, but since it is nearly 45 minutes away and I have a baby that nurses every two hours like clockwork, it just hasn't been easy to plan a trip out there before.

It's not a huge store, but they have every possible grain imaginable for purchase.  They have TONS of dehydrated and freeze-dried fruits and vegetables, too.  And they are famous for some really great stuff called "mushroom popcorn" - more on that later!

Here's what I picked up while I was there, to add to my food storage:

(1) 50lb bag mushroom popcorn, 34.85
(1) 25lb bag rolled 6-grain cereal mix, 12.07
(1) 25lb bag farina (cream of wheat), discounted 10% off to 12.86
(1) can sausage TVP, on sale 9.98
(1) can vital wheat gluten, 10.00
(1) Chef Tess spice mix, 6.99
(3) flavor powders (vanilla, butterscotch and coconut), 5.49 ea
(2) cans dehydrated potato dices, 8.65 ea
(1) can chocolate pudding, 10.95
(1) can vanilla pudding, 10.95
(1) can banana pudding, 10.95
(1) can dehydrated hash browns, 8.50
(1) can tomato powder, on sale 20.43
(1) small can freeze-dried apples, 6.50 (they will go on sale tomorrow, GRRRR!)

(1) can dehydrated carrots, 13.99
(1) can freeze-dried raspberries, 22.55
(1) package sesame seeds, 3.99

One of my main reasons for heading out there was to pick up some items to make meals-in-jars.  I can't wait to show you a few once I get them put together!

What I'm Buying - Smith's 6/6

Thursday, June 7, 2012
Wow - what a week for Smith's!!!  I haven't seen this many produce items on great sales like this for a LONG, long time!

Here's what I picked up this week:

(4) 2lb blueberries, on sale 4.99 (woohoo - blueberry jam!!!)
(2) 24ct Kroger water, on sale 1.99
(13) American Beauty pasta, on sale .69
(2) broccoli bunches, on sale .59/lb
(2) heads cauliflower, on sale .59/lb
(4) bags red seedless grapes, on sale .99/lb
(4) Fresh Selections baby carrots 1lb, on sale .74
(2) Fresh Selections Garden Classics salad, on sale .74
(12) Twizzlers candy, on sale 1.79 (1.46 after coupon)

I used (4) 1.00/3 manufacturer coupons for the Twizzlers [see SS-5/20].

Total:  $64.88

I know they're on sale for cheaper at Macey's this week, and I could have price-matched at Walmart, but that would have meant another trip, and Walmart and I are not exactly friends right now due to a little disagreement over some strawberries.  Sometimes it is worth it to pay a little extra to save some time.

What I'm Buying - Harmon's 6/6

Wednesday, June 6, 2012
I've found my shopping mojo again - hooray!!!  :)

Plenty of good deals to be found in the grocery stores this week.  Here's what I picked up at my local Harmon's:

They are running a promo where you buy 10 participating items and save $5 with an in-store coupon.  There are no limits to the number of groups of 10 you can buy.

(6) Crisco cooking oil 48oz, on sale 3.29 (2.79 after promo)
(6) Don Julio tortilla chips 9oz, on sale 1.29 (.79 after promo)
(4) Smuckers grape jam, on sale 1.79 (1.29 after promo)
(4) Smuckers strawberry jam, on sale 2.99 (2.49 after promo)
(8) Planters peanut butter 16oz, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo - the list says there is a coupon for these, but when I looked the coupon expired last week so is no longer valid)
(2) Jif peanut butter 18oz, on sale 2.69 (2.19 after promo)
(10) Pillsbury frosting, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo)

No coupons needed - the cashier will have the $5 coupons at the register for you already.

However, if you DO have other manufacturer coupons for these items, you can ask to use them.  My store said they would allow them.

Total:  $68.80
