Food Storage Recipe - Fast and Easy Hamburger Buns

Friday, June 29, 2012
This is a great recipe to have around.  We've used it alot with pulled pork sandwiches, and especially nice for us, it's dairy-free.

These mix up fast and only rise for a few minutes before being baked.

2 Tbsp yeast (I use instant)
1 c warm water
1/3 c olive oil
1/4 c sugar
1 egg (I use powdered, so 1 Tbsp powdered egg + 2 Tbsp water)
1 tsp salt
2 c all-purpose flour
1 1/2 c whole wheat flour

Preheat oven to 425F.

Combine yeast, water, oil and sugar in a bowl; let stand for 5 minutes.  Add remaining ingredients and mix until soft dough forms.  (Add up to 1/4 c extra wheat flour if needed.)  Knead dough until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.  Divide dough into 8 pieces.  Shape each into a ball and then flatten to a disc about 4 inches in diameter.  Place on baking sheet, cover lightly with towel, and let rise for 10 minutes (or more).  Bake for 10-12 minutes; remove to cooling rack.

[The ones in the picture above were made with all AP flour because I ran out of wheat that afternoon and didn't want to pull out the grinder to make more.]

I found a hamburger bun recipe and now we are spoiled! So much of the bread now, has corn syrup in it that I'm pretty much stuck making them anyway!
