I am still here!

Tuesday, February 28, 2012
Have no fear, I am still here...sort of...somewhere...

I'm incredibly sleep-deprived, I'm not sure what day it is, and I don't even know if I remember my own name, but I'm still here. ;)

The last few weeks have needed my attention focused on the new baby. And that may continue for another month or so.

BUT - good news on the horizon...now that the baby is here and doing better, and my pregnancy-related health issues are over, I've been given a new calling (service assignment) in my new ward (congregation), and I'll only give you ONE guess as to what it is... Food Storage/Emergency Prep Specialist!!! So, there is lots more info, posts and fun stuff to come! Stay tuned!

Radon - When to Worry

Tuesday, February 14, 2012
KSL News will be doing a piece on the dangers of radon in homes tonight on the 10pm news.

We did our second round of radon testing a few weeks ago, and got the results back - the levels were even HIGHER than the first round! This time, the main floor and even the 2nd floor tested at 8 TIMES the recommended safe limit.

We've already had the radon mitigation company out here for an estimate, and we've decided that this is definitely something that we need to take care of. Now we're just needing to clean the junk out of the basement so they can come in and seal the foundation. Anyone want to volunteer to help with the cleaning? ;)

For all my friends in Utah, and even those of you outside of Utah, I STRONGLY encourage you to look into the radon risk for your area. For most of Utah, the risk is high enough that you really need to get your home tested. It is easy and cheap. Don't wait - do it now.

What I'm Buying - Sunflower Market 2/1

Saturday, February 4, 2012
I've had to make a few extra visits to the pediatrician's office this last week, which is now nearly a 30 minute drive. But one good thing about going up there is that the office is right down the street from my favorite produce place (which I miss quite a lot) and gives me a good excuse to stop in while I'm right there! :)

Here's what I picked up at Sunflower Market this week:

(2) bags green seedless grapes, on sale 1.50/lb
(3) bags red seedless grapes, on sale .88/lb
(2) green leaf lettuce, on sale 1.00 ea
(2) bunches cilantro, on sale .50 ea
(3) bunches green onions, on sale .50 ea
(2) 1lb pkg baby carrots, on sale 1.00 ea
(4) pkgs 85% extra lean ground beef, on sale 2.39/lb
(3) clamshells grape tomatoes, on sale 1.00 ea

Total: $36.66

What I'm Buying - Smith's 1/31

I managed to squeeze in a trip to Smith's earlier this week. They are having another Mega Event - buy 10 participating items and save $5 instantly. Because it was a Tuesday, there were a few things on my list that were out of stock. Here's what I was able to find in stock though:

(1) Mountain Dairy whole milk, on sale 2.49
(4) Johnson's baby shampoo, on sale 2.99 (2.49 after promo, 1.49 after coupon)
(22) Pepperidge Farms goldfish crackers, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo)
(4) Post Fruity Pebbles cereal, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo)
(4) Post Cocoa Pebbles cereal, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo)
(8) Post Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, on sale 2.49 (1.99 after promo)
(1) Ragu spaghetti sauce, on sale 1.62 (1.12 after promo, .57 after coupon)
(1) Ragu alfredo sauce, on sale 1.62 (1.12 after promo, .57 after coupon)
(4) Armor turkey meatballs, on sale 1.99 (1.49 after promo, .99 after coupon)
(4) BumbleBee chicken salad kits, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo)
(8) SunnyD, on sale 1.49 (.99 after promo, .72 after coupon)
(6) Snow chopped clams, on sale 1.00

I used (4) 1.00/1 coupons for the baby shampoo [see SS-1/8], (4) .55/2 coupons for the SunnyD [see SS-1/8], (2) .50/1 coupons for the Ragu sauces [see RP-1/29] and (2) 1.00/2 printable coupons for the meatballs [see GroupA at GrocerySmarts].

Total: $86.10

Not too long ago I would have been able to get all of this for about $50ish, so I am definitely noticing and feeling the raising food costs...and the lower coupon values with shorter expiration periods...guess it is just a sign of the times.
