General Mills introduces "Live Gluten Freely"

Tuesday, November 30, 2010
General Mills is rolling out more gluten-free items, including Chex cereals, Bisquick baking mix and dessert mixes. They also have a website set up for gluten-free product info, tips, resources and quite a few recipes.

Check it out here:

LiveGlutenFreely.com

There are lots of good recipes even for those who aren't on a gluten-free diet! I'm thinking I need to try the Fruiti Sushi recipe for my kids...

Think they'd go for it...? :)

Some emergency preparedness finds...

Sunday, November 28, 2010
Just wanted to give a quick mention to a few emergency preparedness finds I ran across this weekend. I was out on Saturday combing the Wasatch Front trying desperately to find replacement 2.5v clear mini bulbs for our Christmas tree (can't believe how hard these things have been to find in stock anywhere).

The first three stores were a bust for the light bulbs, but I did notice a great little emergency radio at Lowe's:

4-way power (batteries, solar panel, hand crank or AC), receives AM, FM and NOAA alert weather stations, has a flashlight and emergency beacon, has an audio-in jack for hookup to MP3 player, and has a USB cell phone charger.

Price: $49.97
Link HERE

Feature-wise it's almost exactly the same as the Kaito Voyager I bought last year (see post HERE), but this one at Lowe's has the audio-in jack, which means you could use it as a speaker for your MP3 player (even if the power goes out) which could be really useful in helping entertain the kids if needed.

I finally found the bulbs I needed at Home Depot, and I also found some other really great deals:

Husky Tool Bag Combo

2 piece set, includes 16-in and 12-in tool bags, nice and sturdy, very heavyweight

Price: $9.88 (for BOTH)
Link HERE

Now, don't let the fact that this says "Tool Bag Combo" fool you - these bags would be GREAT for emergency kits for the car, or for first aid kits around the house! (I'm using one to make an emergency kit for the car - more on that later.)

And, you may already know about my flashlight obsession...and if you do, then you know there's NO WAY I could pass these up without putting them in my cart:

10 Pack Flashlight Combo Set
2 9-LED flashlights, 6 6-LED flashlights, and 2 pivoting headlamps

Price: $9.88 (yeah, that's less than $10 for 10 lights AND it comes with ALL the batteries, too!)
Link HERE

I got a similar set last year, but it was only 5 flashlights (3 standard and 2 headlamps) and I paid $15 for them back then.

With all the snow we've been getting here recently, now is a great time to check your emergency supplies and make sure you've got what you need in the case of a power outtage or in case you get stuck on the road in your car.

What I'm Buying - Smith's 11/16

Tuesday, November 16, 2010
There were a few more things from the Mega Event sale that I wanted to pick up before it ends tonight. And while I was there, I just couldn't pass up the great turkey deal!

From now until Nov 25th, Private Selection frozen hen turkeys 12-14lb are on sale for $6.00 when you use your FreshValues card and have a minimum $25 purchase. Private Selection tom turkeys 14-20lb are on sale for $8.00.

BUT, from now until Nov 20th (Saturday), if you buy (4) 12pks of Coke products, you will get a 5th 12pk free and get $5 off your turkey purchase automatically. That reduces the price of the Private Selection turkeys to $1 or $3. Not bad! The Coke products rign up at $3.50 each, and with the 5th for free, you end up with 5 for $14, or $2.80 each, which is a great price!

Here's what else I picked up:

(8) roma tomatoes, .88/lb

(3) cucumbers, .79 ea
(1) 1lb Kroger carrots, 1.29

I used (5) 1.00/1 coupons for the cookie mix [see SS-10/10], (2) 1.00/2 printable coupons for the pasta [can't for the life of me remember where I found the link - sorry], (4) 1.00/1 coupons for the Langer's juice [see SS-11/14].

Then I used my $10 FreshValues rewards certificate I got in the mail last week, and also the double bonus points coupon that came with the other rewards coupons.

Total: $38.97

Sorry for the poor picture quality - every time they put out a new OS upgrade for my phone, the picture quality gets worse and worse...
